I've been listening to music all my life,
since I was a little baby. In my family music always has been something
important, and everyone in the house likes different genres. For example, my
brother likes rock, grunge and metal music. My sister is really into hip hop,
soul and ska music. My dad loves cumbia and latin rhythms; and my mom is really
into chilean and latin folk.
I grew up listening to all of those genres
of music, and that made me be very open to listening to other kinds of music. I
think that I don’t’ have a specific favorite genre, but mostly I listen to progressive
rock, hip hop, electronic music, neo soul and jazz fusion. Also, I don’t have a
favorite artist, but I have a top 10, with no specific order: Flying Lotus,
Hiatus Kaiyote, Como asesinar a Felipes, Radiohead, Violeta Parra, Invisible,
King Crimson, Mediabanda, Chicarica y Victor Jara.
I use to go to concerts and gigs, in fact, I
think that I save and spend money only for it. My first concert was one from
Paramore, in 2008.
My oldest memory of learning a song was
with my brother. He was teaching me how to play on flute the intro of “Mira niñita”
from “Los Jaivas”. I know how to play some instruments, but I have a basic
knowledge of it. I know a little about guitar, ukulele and piano. Otherwise, I
love to sing, but I feel ashamed of doing it in public.
I think music is important to people and
culture because it helps to express ideas and feelings, and people can get identify
with it.
