I've been listening to music all my life, since I was a little baby. In my family music always has been something important, and everyone in the house likes different genres. For example, my brother likes rock, grunge and metal music. My sister is really into hip hop, soul and ska music. My dad loves cumbia and latin rhythms; and my mom is really into chilean and latin folk.
I grew up listening to all of those genres of music, and that made me be very open to listening to other kinds of music. I think that I don’t’ have a specific favorite genre, but mostly I listen to progressive rock, hip hop, electronic music, neo soul and jazz fusion. Also, I don’t have a favorite artist, but I have a top 10, with no specific order: Flying Lotus, Hiatus Kaiyote, Como asesinar a Felipes, Radiohead, Violeta Parra, Invisible, King Crimson, Mediabanda, Chicarica y Victor Jara.
I use to go to concerts and gigs, in fact, I think that I save and spend money only for it. My first concert was one from Paramore, in 2008.
My oldest memory of learning a song was with my brother. He was teaching me how to play on flute the intro of “Mira niñita” from “Los Jaivas”. I know how to play some instruments, but I have a basic knowledge of it. I know a little about guitar, ukulele and piano. Otherwise, I love to sing, but I feel ashamed of doing it in public.
I think music is important to people and culture because it helps to express ideas and feelings, and people can get identify with it.

I’m bad at taking photos, and this isn’t an exception. I took this photo in summer, in a place called “Mount Tarn”, that is located 70 km to the south of Punta Arenas. The trip to the climb of the mount was beautiful, but it was really hard to me because the road was full of deep holes with mud. It was really easy to fall off and get all muddy, and this picture shows it. I took it a few minutes after my friend, Bruno, sank his leg on a muddy hole.
I like this photo because it reminds me how much we laughed at that moment, and the best part happened a few minutes later. My friends and I were making fun about the bad luck of Bruno, I was almost crying for the hilarious jokes that they were saying, and in that exact moment I fall off, and half of my leg was completely inside of the muddy hole. Taking off my leg from that whole was a mess, it was blocked, and the fact that I couldn’t stop to laugh was making it harder.

My favorite technologic device in the whole world is my Ipod. It is an old one, an outdated model that I got 7 years ago. It was really expensive, but I had the opportunity to found it with a little discount. I had to work and save money in order to have it, so I was able to pay half of the price, and the money that was left was paid for my family as a birthday gift.
The reason of loving so much this machine is that it has 160 GB, so I can put lots of things in it, like movies, music videos and tons of CD’s from different artists and genres. At the time I got my Ipod having a device that had the ability to do all of those things was something really unusual, because smartphones were not so common yet.
I usually use the Ipod to listening to music when I have to travel, when I’m on the bus, when I’m walking around, etc. I use it almost every day, but especially I love to use it in summer when I go backpacking, because the battery lasts hours and hours and also it doesn’t need signal to work.
I think my life without it would be the same anyways, but a little less fun.  I remember a time when my Ipod wasn’t working so well, so I download Spotify on my phone, but I didn’t liked it at all because there are some artist that I listen that aren’t on that music platform. Fortunately, I could fix it and I'm still using it until today.

When I was a little girl, the first thing that I wanted to be was a teacher of “Defense against the Dark Forces” at Hogwarts, the magic school from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. When I was 11 my letter to enter to Hogwarts didn’t come and I discovered that magic never existed, I changed my mind, but I still wanted to be a teacher because my mom and my sister were teachers.
But when I finished high school, and after thinking it well, I decided that being a teacher wasn’t an option for me if I hated the school as an institution. I started to study Derecho, but I never wanted to be a lawyer, I only did it because the pressure of my family. I quit quickly, and the next year I started to study Sociology, which was my only option.
I decided it when I came to the “Feria del postulante”, there I talked to a girl who was studying Sociology, she showed me the curricular and the subjects that it had, and it convinced me. Now I’m on my 4th year and my experience has been positive because I realized that the career is very versatile, I can do different things depending on my interest. The hardest thing has been working in groups, because in almost all my subjects I have to do that. Trying to 4 or 5 people coincide at the same time it’s not easy.
In the future, I would like to get a job related to education, because it's still important to me. I would like to work doing investigation about some organization that has other concept of teaching and learning, different to the traditional educational system.

My name is Catalina Gortaris, I was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1996. I lived all my life in Macul, except for a few years that I lived in Ñuñoa.
I didn't even remember when I started kindergarten because I was only a baby, I went so young 'cause my parents had to work and no one could take care of me. I have an older brother and an older sister, but when I was born they were almost in highschool, they both have at least 10 years more than me.
I went to two schools. First I went to Eduardo Frei Montalva school to do primary school, and after that I went to Francisco Encina school. When I finished highschool I started to go to the university. First, in 2015, I began to study Derecho at Universidad de Chile, but i didn't like it at all, so I quit after a few months. Then, in 2016, I started to study my actual career, Sociology, and now I'm on my 4th year.
I have lots of hobbies, but the thing that I like the most is to sing while I play the guitar. The only problem is that I dont' like to do it in public, I like to do it on my own and when no one else is listening, otherwise I feel ashamed.
